Volvo Ocean Race: Boston in-port race on Saturday
Before heading off across the ocean to Galway the seven racer sailboats taking part in The Volvo Ocean race will resume the competion with an in-port race off the coast of Boston. Swedish monohull yacht Ericsson 4 will be seeking to consolidate its lead over its nearest rivals, Spain's Telefonica Blue and US team Puma Racing (in the pic aside while heading towards the port of Boston). The winner of the in-port race will collect four points. The race will mark the return of Telefonica Bluès co-skipper, Iker Martinez, who opted to skip leg six between Rio de Janeiro and Boston which was won by Ericsson 4. Martinez will be joined by French sailer Michel Desjoyeaux, who won the Vendee Globe race and is considered to be one of the world's most successful solo sailers. The Volvo Ocean Race began in the Spanish port of Alicante in October and is set to conclude in St Petersburg, Russia, in June after nine months negotiating 10 stages over 37,000 nautical miles. Team Russia (RUS)/Andreas Hanakamp (AUT) 10.5 (has temporarily withdrawn from the race).
